Air Jordan is one of the most popular brands of shoes ever released. The brand was introduced to the world on 1985 for Micheal Jordan who is quite possibly the greatest hoops star of all time. Since 1985, Air Jordan has introduced a new model of their Air Jordan kicks each year. The first release of Air Jordan shoes (aka ‘Jordans’) were called the Air Jordan I. The styles go numerically from 1-23 or I-XXIII and continue with 2009 and 2010. Micheal Jordan wore the number twenty-three for a good portion of his basketball career, which was the reason why the models go up to 23 and then continue numerically in a different format. All of the models and styles of shoes have their own unique characteristics which make them all very sought after footwear. Every Air Jordan Shoe model has its own interesting facts. Out of everything that could be picked, below is just one interesting fact about each model of Air Jordan shoes.
I – The shoe that kicked off the greatest legacy in basketball shoe history. II – Only basketball shoe to feature faux lizard skin. III – The first of 14 Air Jordans designed by Tinker Hatfield. IV – Incorporated many new design concepts, while again featuring the air sole heel for added cushioning and a full length midsole. V – The clear rubber sole was a very popular feature with this model. VI – Reinforcement around the toe area of the shoe was a new feature in this model. VII – Lighter weight than some of the previous models. VIII – Extra traction and support are notable features on this model. IX – Released the same year that Michael Jordan announced his retirement for the first time. X – The first release since Micheal announces his retirement from basketball. XI – This model is known to be the most popular in the Jordan shoe line. XII – Partly inspired by the Japanese Rising Sun flag. XIII – Design was inspired by a panther. XIV – These were the first in the line to have metal tip laces. XV – A tongue that stuck out was a unique feature with these kicks. XVI – A removable shroud covers the shoe and can give it a completely different look when it is taken off. XVII – First shoe released since Jordan’s 2nd return to the NBA playing for the Washington Wizards. XVIII – Design is a combination of a number of things; Sleek racing lines of the auto world, carbon fiber-based monocoque of F1 race cars, race car driving shoes (rubber heel wrap) and fine Italian dress shoes (bold stitching on the soles). XIX – Inspired by the most dangerous snake on earth, the Black Mamba. XX – During its marketing campaign, “Welcome to the future” was a major slogan for the Jordan 20. XXI – Very simple design compared to the other Jordan models. XXII – Inspiration came from one of the most advanced fighter jets in the world – the F-22 Raptor. XXIII – This was a landmark edition for the shoe due to the fact that it was #23 in the Jordan line which was the same number that Micheal wore through much of his playing career. 2009 – The first release after 23 and was not named numerically. 2010 – 25th anniversary of the Air Jordan brand. Other models from the line include the Dub Zeros. The Dub Zeros were released in 2005 and are a collection of many different shoes in one. They feature the best pieces of the most famous shoes.
All of the original Air Jordans have been reproduced and re-released to the public in what are called ‘Retro’ models. Air Jordan shoes have become a serious collectors item.
